Should you take probiotics with antibiotics?

While it may seem contradictory, clinical research suggests that is helps to minimize the damaging side effects on your gut microbiome, if you take certain probiotics together with antibiotics.

The best probiotic to take with antibiotics are particular strains that can be taken alongside antibiotics, rather than separately.

These particular strains are

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus Rosell-52

  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus Rosell-11

  • Bifidobacterium lactis Lafti B94

  • Saccharomyces boulardii

I recommend taking some or all of above 3 months following every round of antibiotics. Research has shown that if you do nothing to reestablish good bacteria balance after antibiotic use, it can take years for the gut to recover.
